Hearts Card Games can be played with 3 to 7 players (best with 4 players)using a standard deck of cards

Here are the rules for playing at home.

Game Play

Rank of Cards:
Ace – 2 with Ace being highest.

Shuffle and Draw:
Everyone pulls out 1 card from the deck that is spread out face down on the table. Highest card deals first and after that the deal goes to the left.

Dealing in Hearts Card Game:
The dealer hands out the cards clockwise. In a four person game, everyone is dealt thirteen cards; in a three person game, the two of Diamonds should not be used, and every person gets seventeen cards; in a five person game, the two of Diamonds and two of clubs should not be used so that everybody will get ten cards.

For the six person game, the two of Diamonds, three of Diamonds, three of clubs and four of clubs are not used, so that everybody gets 8 cards. Lastly, with seven people, the two of Diamonds, three of Diamonds and three of clubs are not used so that everybody gets seven cards. On the other hand, if five or more people are playing, it is better to have two tables of three if six people are playing and a table of four and a table of three for seven people.

The Goal:
The goal is to not win any hearts or the Queen of Spades, or, win all thirteen hearts and the Queen of Spades (also known as "Shooting the Moon"). In the end, the goal is to have the lowest possible score at the end of the game.

To Play the Hearts card games :
The person who holds the two of Clubs after the pass starts the game. If the two of Clubs is not used for the three handed game, then the three of Clubs is led. This is now the customary rule. Everyone has to follow suit if they can.

If a person does not have the suit led, any other suit may be played. But, if a person does not have any clubs when the first trick is led, no heart or the queen of spades can be played. The highest card of the suit led wins that hand and the winner leads next.

There is no trump suit. The person that wins the trick gathers it and puts it face down to form an orderly pile of cards. Hearts cannot lead until a heart or the queen of spades has been thrown. The queen can be played any time.

How to Score in the card games Hearts:
An individual column on a piece of paper is kept for everyone. When a hand is over, everyone counts the amount of hearts they have in addition to the queen of spades, if relevant.

Each heart is worth 1 point.
The Queen of Spades is worth 13 points.

The points are then put in everyone’s column. The total of the scores for every hand must be a multiple of 26. Note: The number of tricks a person wins doesn’t count as such; the scoring is established exclusively on who wins tricks that have hearts plus the queen of spades if they have it.

The game typically is played to either 50 or 100 points. When someone gets that score or higher, the game is over; and the person that has the lowest score wins the game.

"Shooting the Moon"
One of the best things about this game is called shooting the moon. It is when someone takes all thirteen hearts plus the queen of spades in the same hand. Scores will vary noticeably. Instead of losing 26 points, that person scores zero and everyone else scores 26 points.
