Canfield Card Game Rules

Canfield card game is played using a standard deck of cards

The Layout
You count out thirteen cards face down, and place these cards face up horizontally to the left to create the reserve. Then, turn up the next card as being the initial foundation card and place it above the reserve, and to the right. Beside the reserve, and directly below the initial foundation card, you deal a row of 4 cards facing upwards to the right. This creates the tableau.

canfield card game Foundations
As they become available, the additional three cards of the same rank as the initial foundation card will be put in a row off to the right from the first foundation. You can then build up on each foundation in suit as well as series, proceeding "around the corner." Example: If a queen is the initial foundation, the other queens, as they become available, create a foundation and is built up as follows: Q of diamonds, K of clubs, Ace of diamonds, 2 of clubs, 3 of clubs etc, up to J of clubs.

Object of Canfield Card Game
The objective would be to build all 4 foundations up to the 13th card within each suit.

Stock
Following the layout is dealt, the rest of the pack creates the stock (or "hand"). Cards are turned over three at the same time, and the top card of every colum is available for building. The cards below are available once the top card is used.

Talon
You put every colum of three cards, as they are flipped over in the stock, on the talon (waste pile) beneath the layout. The top card of the talon is always available for building. When all of the stock is played on the talon, you can then turn it facing downwards to create a fresh stock and go through it once again, 3 cards at a time. The stock might be run through any number of times until zero plays are possible, or until the game will be won.

Building
Every movable card or cards (from tableau, reserve, or stock) can be placed solely over a card next-higher in rank and of opposite color within the tableau. Instance: The 8 of hearts can be added to nine of clubs or 9 of spades. An entire pile of the tableau must be moved like a unit.

Spaces
A space within the tableau has to be filled by the top card of the reserve, which must always remain squared up to ensure that just the top card can be recognized. After the reserve has become exhausted, spaces can be filled with the stock and talon.
