California Jack Card
Game Rules

A great game to play with a friend.

California Jack is played with 2 players
using a standard deck of cards

Rank of Cards is from Ace down to two

Shuffling
Starting with a shuffled deck that is placed facing down, everyone extracts a card. Highest card deals. The dealer reshuffles all the cards, and the challenger cuts the deck.

The Deal
The dealer finishes the cut and deals out the cards either 1 card at a time or 3 cards at a time, starting with their challenger, until everyone has 6 cards. The left over cards are placed face up in the middle of the table, becoming the stock. The top card becomes the trump suit for that hand.

To Play
The person on the dealer's left starts the game. Whatever card is led loses that card to one that is higher of the identical suit or to a trump, but otherwise wins that hand. The person that wins each hand leads next. The other player must also stick to suit or trump, if they are able to. If they are not able to play a suit or trump card, they can play any card.

The winner of every trick pulls the top card off the stock, and the one that lost takes the next card. Because the first card of the stock is constantly showing, a common goal is to win or lose a hand depending on if that person wants to draw the first card of the stock or they can take a gamble on the next card. Once the stock is gone, the last 6 cards of everyone’s hand have been played out until all the cards have been played.

Scoring
1 point is scored for each trick that contain: ace of trump, deuce of trump, Jack of trump, and Game (the greatest number of points in counting cards, each ten counting 10 points, each ace 4, each king 3, each queen 2, each jack 1).

The first person to score 10 points wins the game. If both players reach 10 in the same hand, the points count in order: High, Low, Jack, and Game.
